Report: Claudia Gadelha, Jessica Andrade set to meet at UFC Fight Night 117 in Japan stat : MMAjunkie

According to the report, the two are set to meet at UFC Fight Night 117, which takes place Friday, Sept. 22 at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, near Tokyo (via Instagram). Taking matchmaking into their own hands seems to have paid off for UFC strawweights Claudia Gadelha and Jessica Andrade. After Gadelha (15-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) issued an Instagram challenge to Andrade (16-6 MMA, 7-4 UFC), who accepted it, Combate.com says the matchup is on.

This fight will be added to UFC Japan which is headlined by a light heavyweight match up between Maurício Shogun Rua and Ovince Saint Preux. This is not the case with Claudia Gadelha and Jessica Andrade. After losing to the champion Joanna Jędrzejczyk twice, Gadelha is trying to work her way through the UFC women's top strawweights. Without finalized plans for Jędrzejczyk to move up to 125 pounds, this fight between Gadelha and Andrade could set up the next shot at the 115 title.


A pair of former UFC strawweight title challengers will meet in Japan, as Combate reported Claudia Gadelha will take on Jessica Andrade at the legendary Saitama Super Arena in Japan. Jessica Andrade (16-6) got bested by Jedrzejczyk in her last outing, in May, when she was also defeated by unanimous decision. Before the loss, Andrade was on a three-fight winning streak, with wins over the likes of Jessica Penne, Joanne Calderwood, and Angela Hill. Since her unanimous decision loss against champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk in July 2016, Claudia Gadelha (15-2) has put together a two-fight winning streak, with a unanimous decision win over Cortney Casey and a rear-naked choke submission over of Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC 212 in June. UFC Fight Night: Japan will take place on September 23rd.
