It took a long time to get here, but the Cris "Cyborg" Justino era as UFC champion finally commenced on Saturday and the performance was a showcase of her evolution. But her featherweight debut was certainly her most technical to date as Justino finally achieved her dream of winning UFC gold. Long known as an overly aggressive striker, Justino (18-1) showed incredible poise in picking apart late replacement Tonya Evinger over nearly three full rounds before scoring a late stoppage at UFC 214 in Anaheim, California. Justino, 32, a former Strikeforce and Invicta FC champion, captured the vacant UFC women's featherweight title that was stripped from inaugural champion Germaine de Randamie for refusing to face "Cyborg." Justino improved to 3-0 in UFC after a pair of stoppage victories in 140-pound catchweight bouts.
UFC 214 prelims results: Albu beats Curran, Brooks beats Shelton, Dober knocks out Burkman
Throughout the round, Shelton and Brooks traded shots, but Shelton appeared to do more. Burkman started to look more comfortable in the striking department, but soon after, Dober landed a huge left shot that put Burkman down and out. Brooks started things off by pressuring his opponent and using a lot of in-and-out movement. To open the bout, Dober and Burkman traded leg kicks, and Dober immediately started to pressure the veteran. In the third round, however, Curran started off with a load of punches, hurting her opponent. This content may collect you by Max Nolan
